So this is nothing more than my "I should really try and learn Git" project. But while Im here, and you probably aren't, let me regail you with a brief, rambling, mind dump on the modern web and why its sorta rubbish.

In the past, the web was simple. It was easy. It was unique. A chaotic world that made discovering new sites an exciting opportunity. Websites that werent built around a uniform design, but custom built by its creator to be an expression of themselves. Yet, despite this, the information made available was easy to access, use, and archive if needed. There was no obfuscation or forced registration. RSS feeds werent just a summary with a link to the article, they were the article.

It was a digital universe that was built to represent and support its people. We were the Kings.

We arent anymore. Ironically, despite the explosion of "Web 2.0" platforms, or social media if you aren't a pretentious prick, the web has lost that feeling of personalization. In its place are drab, corporate, sterile experiences designed to offend as few people as possible, while driving as much traffic as possible, to generate as much income as possible. We arent the Kings any more. Meta is. We just generate their content for free.

I miss the days when you could stumble upon a website entirely dedicated to a nich subject, and it had the "feeling" of discovering something new. A website dedicated to Sonic the Hedgehog, with cheesy Sonic sprites ripped off the cartridge every other paragraph and a looping midi track some guy composed on an Amiga Modtracker during commercial breaks of Ed, Edd, n Eddy.

It was dirty, it was borderline unusable, and it was often times rarely updated. But it was ours. It was beautiful in its chaos. Thats the web I want to see revived. So thats the kind of website I'm going to make.

And since all...2...3 of you made it all the way to the end, there's only one thing I am now contractually obligated to do.

Here's your cheesy Sonic sprite.
